#17: Richmond Brunch Fave: The Nutty Monkey.

Nope, it’s not a mirage. Yep, they probably couldn’t stuff any more in, even if they tried. And yep, you’re seeing what I’m seeing: crunchy peanut butter, candied almonds, drizzled honey, ripe banana, cinnamon oats, local apple butter, 100% wheat extra-large wrap. Crossroads RVA Coffee & Ice Cream A local’s favorite. My usual breakfast spot in college after I worked out. Sadly, they retired my favorite breakfast wrap, but I’m glad I got to enjoy it for as…

#16: Run A Half-Marathon In 40˙F.

IF AND BEFORE you run a half, just remember: It’s NOT for the faint of heart. Everything –– the weather, the course, the prep, the sustenance, the running buddy, the end goal –– makes a difference between ending happy and ending miserable. This was my 1st half-marathon. Ever. Luckily for me, the course was a pretty, flat 13.2 miles through downtown, scenic, park-centric Richmond, VA. Unlucky for me, it was a 40˙ morning that felt like 20˙. My exposed hands were freezing and…

#14: Belly Up To Belly Timber.

I mustache you a question: “What’s your favorite garnish on nachos?” Ours was black beans, no guacamole, no pico de gallo, no chicken, no siracha hot sauce, no… everything. Belly Timber Tavern. Best Time To Go: Tuesday Trivia Night, 8PM. Food: Unconventional sandwiches, duck pizza, pub staples, best nachos this side of the Mississippi.

#13: Furnish An Apt On A Broke Budget.

I didn’t make a lot of money when I lived in Richmond, VA. But resourceful and ambitious, I used whatever flea market, thrift store and consignment knick-knacks I could find. And what did $437 get me? A barely-used IKEA bed, with frame and mattress in mint condition. Black, wall IKEA shelves. A sponge-painted IKEA night-stand. A taste for the finer things in life, like IKEA, apparently. A floor-length, life-size Paris backdrop from a yard sale for $10 bucks. Best of all, amateur interior…

#12: 15 Reasons Why I Moved Back To My College Town.

Did you know there’s more to your college town than meets the college student’s eye? I had no idea either. Turns out there is life in Richmond,VA after college. And it’s unbelievably cool. I’m a week into my new post-college town living. And already I’ve found a confluence of diverse restaurants outside campus, way better coffee shops not run by freshman baristas, OTBT places I didn’t have a car to get to before, way more money to work with,…
