It’s one thing to plan a visit to the Coit Tower, a Roman-esque monument fixed on the city’s memorable skyline; its silhouette acting as the city’s ‘North Star’ of landmarks.  It’s another thing to stumble upon it. Today I, randomly and unknowingly, had walked all the way to the very top of it to make my doc appt. on the other side located at the very bottom.

Some 42 minutes after leaving my Nob Hill apartment –– headphones-clad and Google Maps-ready –– I found myself standing beneath the foot of Coit Tower.

The micro-climate was apparent.
It was 62 degrees, jacket weather.
The crisp, dry air was not yet foggy and I already had a lingering salty taste on my tongue, my belly hankering for seafood.
Surrounded by camera-clad tourists, Roman-style architecture and panting dogs in the form of humans, I realized in a moment’s reflection why people walked all the way up here.
It feels, looks, smells, tastes, sounds like a slice of Little Italy up here at the top of the Tower.
