The Golden State holds just about any challenge you could ask for –– waves to surf, coastal rides to ride, mountains to climb –– and this bucket list item has topped them all so far. After 7 good driving hours, 75 mini pitstops (yes, I counted) and 1000+ shots through the Big Sur later, it was nothing less than adrenaline-pumping and eye-popping.

(Best of all: all shot on my LG G4 smartphone with 16-megapixel camera!)

Screen Shot 2015-12-03 at 4.14.25 PMThe waterfall that drops from the cliffs of the Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park and right into the Pacific Ocean is probably one of the most photographed landmarks in all of California.

See, even I got a quick shot!

But instead of doing what the masses do, flocking in hundreds and hiking up the 10-minute trail for a photo, I went this trip alone. I set off from San Louis Obispo at 6:45am this morning and headed North on the Pacific Coast Highway toward San Francisco.

The best known sections of San Francisco-to-LA’s Highway 1, also known as the PCH, is The Big Sur.

While en route on Labor Day Monday morning I stopped along the way for pee breaks, postcard necessities, food stands, photo opps and fresh air.
