Foodie-isms

It’s probably a “duh” bucket list item to hit up The Mission in San Francisco for Mexican food. BUT for anyone doubting its Mexican authenticity, cooking abilities, dishes, spices or… tacos, queso or dip of dips, the gaucamole –– you will be sold and flocking in minutes for these 7 reasons:

  1. Screen Shot 2015-11-24 at 2.50.03 PMLife doesn’t get much better than the jabanero-rimmed margaritas from Lolo’s off Valencia Street. Here it’s always 5 o’clock somewhere in the colorfully decorated restaurant.
  2. SF is home to the “Mission Burrito,” also known as a “San Francisco Burrito” or the “Mission-Style Burrito” –– a type of burrito that first became popular during the 1960s throughout the city because of its extra-LARGE size, extra rice and other ingredients.
  3. Mexican food is a refined, glorified, sacred and embellished institution here, in much the same way pizza rules Chicago.
  4. Even if you’re NOT exactly in the mood for Mexican, you can still have a taste of it with Sushirrito, an unholy but tasty mashup of sushi and burrito.
  5. Even if Tacolicious has taken over the high-end Mexican food scene and its lines are annoying long at every hour, especially happy hour, its gaucamole, ceviche and taco trays are incredibly delicious.
  6. Every taqueria in the neighborhood has a free, complimentary salsa bar that that would blow away any other mild salsa flights.
  7. Fortunately for San Francisco’s foodie conquistadors, there is now a joint called “Bandidos”, a Neo-American-Tex-Mex style restaurant for cowboys and adventures who like fusion-anything.
