Filing your taxes when you’re freelancer slash contractor is a PAIN IN THE ARSE. I’ve done it two years in a row now, and learned a few things.

  1. Opt for a good tax guy. It will cost you a pretty penny, but worth it in the end. What’s worse: hiring a cheap tax guy, him missing something and you facing tax payments later.

  2.  Go with an online tax service, like Turbo Tax. (It’s suppper easy and walks you through EVERYTHING. You also learn soo much about your spending habits and what to avoid in the future.)

  3. Have as many documents, numbers, notes and receipts ready as possible when starting from the beginning. Good news with TurboTax, you can always start, work on parts, save and return later.

  4. Start your tax prep at least 2 weeks before April 15th. It takes that much time to run around with your head cut head, gather, ask q’s and get your pile of docs ready.
