#104: Learn How To Cardio Kick-Box.

Funny, before doing a kickboxing class this evening, I was excited, pumped and inspired with 4 great reasons to just do it. Now, after making it (or struggling rather) through one single 55-minute session,  those 4 great reasons have turned into 4 great lessons learned. One hour, one new partner and about a thousand-something sweat drops later, I survived my first kickboxing class. Just barely.

  1. A single girl living in a big city should protect herself.
I moved to SF with no brother, Dad, boyfriend or even tough guy friend. It was just me, my bare hands and adventurous spirit. I saw right away (after walking through the Tenderloin on day #3) that I’d need to learn the basics, and then some. At least the ‘Jab, jab, jab, right hook’ move.
  2. Boxing, I’ve read, is one of THE best ways to get killer abs.
Walking up Nob Hill has done for my feet what the stair-master at the gym used to do for my legs and butt. This boxing class would replace any expensive gym membership.
  3. You only live once, right. So, why not try out a boxing glass, or two?
My motto since college, this has been my mantra for living, doing, breathing.
  4. Got this book recently, and the cover made me cringe and sign up.
So, I scoured Groupon for a beginner-level boxing class and found 10 sessions for $50 bucks at the Polk Street Gym.
